Weekend Wear: My Fall Essentials

September 30, 2014

When I was younger I hated the Fall, I really did. I attributed it to cold weather, earlier sunsets and the official end of Summer. As someone who frequented Puerto Rico, anything below 75 degrees was difficult to deal with but the older I got the more excited I got over the season. Fall fashion is my favorite. From the layering of sweaters and scarves to the jewel tones and rustic color palettes, fall is the best season for fashion in my opinion. You can say that it has become easier for me to let go of flawy summer dresses and layer up :)

There's nothing like throwing on an easy tee, layering it with a scarf or necklace, pairing it with jeans and a light jacket. Honestly, that's my go-to outfit and it's never failed me.We all need easy basics to dress up or dress down. Whether you're going out to grab a coffee or headed to a concert, the following are fall staples everyone should have in their closet.

Dark Wash Jeans: Dark wash denim looks good on EVERYONE. Seriously, it does. Like I stated before, a dark wash is easier to dress up or dress down. They are good day to night and are usually more slimming.

Light Knit Top: The one pictured above is from J.Crew Factory and it is a simple stripped pattern that easily pairs with a lot of bottoms.

Statement Piece: I added a brass necklace from Jewel Mint and a floral print scarf. It adds dimension and spruces up the outfit. I was never one to accessorize but I've quickly learned how essential it is to complete a look. Don't be afraid to accessorize!

Light Jacket: This olive wax jacket from J.Crew has to be one of my best purchases within this past year. It has become such a versatile piece and I wear it all the time! I clearly must not be the only one who loves it because I've seen it on many stylish ladies throughout NYC. It's structured but not too stiff and comes in great fall colors!

I completed the look with comfy ankle boots and my new favorite hat from Lyla & Bo. I'm obsessed with this Bleeker hat and their entire collection. Take a look here.

These are my fall essentials, what are yours? Let me know in the comment section below!

Let's Get to Work: Banana Republic's Sloan Dress

September 22, 2014

Ever hear the phrase, when you look good, you feel good? There's something about this red dress that makes me feel like I can conquer the world. I've always believed that there was something powerful and exciting about the color red but yet I never owned a red dress until this one.

The color itself gives off a certain vibe and I've heard that when a person has a red aura, they are adventurous, direct and successful. I'll admit there was little more pep in my step today, I'll blame it on the dress ;)

While I worked at Banana Republic, I grew to love the Sloan pieces and saw how they wonderfully they fit curvier bodies. When I saw this dress on sale I had to pick it up. I know I am petite but I have a curvier figure and it becomes a bit difficult to find clothing that fits without being too tight and inappropriate. Luckily enough, this Sloan dress is perfect for work and date night. It's made up of 60% Cotton, 35% Rayon and 5% Spandex; it's fitted but stretches enough to fit you well in all the right places. I added a leopard print belt around the waist to add dimension, a black blazer to make it work appropriate, both from Banana Republic and a Michael Kors watch and Jewel Mint rings as finishing touches.

It's beginning to look a lot like...Fall!

September 19, 2014

Who's excited for fall?! This girl! I always switch around with which season is my favorite but the older I become the more I fall in love with Fall. The change in temperature, the Fall colors and Fall styles of course!

Even though I will always have a sweet love affair with summer, Fall is like the loving boyfriend that waits for you at home with a cup of tea and a warm blanket. Fall is calling my name :).

We're a couple days away from the official beginning of the Fall season but I couldn't help but get inspired by the cool days we're having here in the Tri-State Area and the leaves that have already begun to fall. I found this blue floral number at LOFT, on sale! :) This easy shirtdress was perfect for this cooler morning and I paired it with my beloved Banana Republic wedges and this newer item in my closet, my ASOS felt hat. I've never been a hat person, other than the occasional baseball cap at games but I fell in love with the trend and figured why not purchase one. I fell so in love with it that I've paired with it with many outfits throughout the Summer and I know I will continue doing so during the Fall.

This shirtdress has instantly become a favorite in my closet as it reminds me very much of a similar dark purple leopard print dress I purchased from LOFT, last Winter. The blue and yellow floral print is so pretty and can be worn all season, or at least I certainly think so ;) I can already see myself wearing this with tights and booties come Winter!

Thanks for reading!

Let's Get to Work: Floral Midi Skirt

September 16, 2014

I know I've talked about how much I love J. Crew and Banana Republic's petite selections but I haven't expressed how obsessed I am with ASOS and their petite collection. I really appreciate their selection because it's the perfect place for petites to find trendier pieces. Think crop tops, stylish rompers and midi skirts like this one! The midi skirt has become quite a desired piece this year and I am a big fan. I wasn't sure how a longer skirt would look on a shorter frame but I am pleased with this trendy find, plus who doesn't love floral?! Thank you ASOS petites! I have not found another store with midi skirts for petites and I'm so glad I found this one.

I paired it with a jeweled top from J. Crew, rose gold metallic heels from Banana Republic and my Le Pliage bag. I kept the accessories simple because I wanted to keep all eyes on the midi skirt.

Yay for trendy petite finds!

NYC: Australian Designer Trunk Show

September 14, 2014

This past week was NYFW, lots of fashion events were happening throughout the city. Fashion week is such an exciting time in the city. Of course it is the city that never sleeps but there is an extra level of intensity and vibrance that is in the air during fashion week. I was lucky enough to stop by a trunk show earlier this week to see some Australian designers. The featured designers were Lyla & Bo, Zhivago, Micky in the Van and finally Inder Dhillon.

I fell in love with Lyla & Bo's designs and was lucky enough to meet both designers, Michelle and Christina. What lovely gals! The Australian duo started Lyla & Bo just under a year ago and have already achieved so much success. Their hat collection is to die for! I couldn't help but purchase the dark green one on the corner of the table, see picture below.

Couldn't help it, I had to take a selfie :)
So far I've worn it out a few times and have only received compliments! Good on ya, Lyla & Bo!

They also make ear cuffs! How fab is that ear cuff?!

Zhivago was a mix of pure funk and glam. It screamed Lady Gaga and I was informed that they have not only styled her but Kendall Jenner too!

I had to try on this leather jacket, the back detail was amazing...

This top and skirt set was everything! I instantly thought of at least 5 ways to style this. I was in love with the pattern and the shoulder pads, so stylish.

All of the pieces at the trunk show were available to try on but had to be order except for the Lyla & Bo hats. All the hats and ear cuffs are available on their website, as well as the pieces by Zhivago.

City Outing: Polka-Dot Romper

I'm slowly coming to realize how this blogging gig is no joke. There are definitely bloggers out there that make it look so simple and fabulous. I certainly did not think I'd be famous overnight nor do I believe it'll happen anytime soon (one can dream right?) but it's a reflection of passion. I've always believed that if you're passionate about something it will show, people will see it and it will come naturally. I don't know how naturally this blogging thing is but I can say one right, it sure as hell makes me happy. From the outfit planning (or lack there of) to the photoshoots with great friends (Predestined in Love and Vianel De La Cruz) to the late night writing, it has all been a labor of love. I reap no financial benefit but it sure makes my heart smile.

I reached out to Vianel, a friend of mine from college and incredibly talented photographer, and asked whether he'd be interested in spending the day in NYC and shooting in different locations. He was down. So we hopped around the city, from neighborhood to neighborhood and ended up with these awesome shots. It's been astounding working with my photographer friends and it's inspiring to see how passionate they are about their work. This same day V and I were shooting, he had told me he had barely gotten any sleep because he had stayed up late taking photos in Brooklyn and woke up early to shoot the sunrise and I was in awe. That's truly inspiring and it is overwhelming in the best way possible, to surround oneself with people who love what they do.

His talent helped create some awesome photos of a date night look. I must express once again, I am obsessed with black and white and sometimes grey. They just always look so good! Once again, I added some red to make this look pop. The polka-dot romper is LOFT size, XSP and the red belt is Zara. I added my Bauble Bar link necklace, gold Michael Kors watch and black Michael Kors bag as finishing touches.

I think this is a perfect date night outfit because it's comfortable, sophisticated without being too dressy and fun. I actually received quite the compliment when I wore it out on a date later that evening ;)

Weekend Wear: Texture in Soho

September 9, 2014

I was in Soho over the weekend with my friends Laura, an art blogger (www.crettatura.com) and Vianel, a photographer (www.vianeldelacruz.tumblr.com) and as we wandered the streets of one of my favorite neighborhoods we found the cutest church. Laura is a huge fan of churches and from time to time well pop in and take a peak, admire the alter, the stained glass; and the one we discovered in Soho was no different. Its courtyard was so quaint, the doors were wide open and the singing voices incredibly welcoming. We walked in briefly but stepped out not to disrupt the service taking place and took some photos outside.

This casual weekend stroll around the city called for a comfty stylish outfit. I wore my favorite jeans from Banana Republic with a flowy textured top from Anthropologie. I amped up this weekend look with my tan woven wedges also from Banana Republic and a jeweled necklace from Anthropologie from their collaborative collection with Bauble Bar available in stores and online.

The texture of the lace top with the statement necklace made the outfit pop and added dimension making it the combination perfect for brunch with friends or a casual day in the city.

I rave about these jeans all the time because they are my absolute favorites. I get so excited when I find jeans that fit. Jean shopping has always been troubling for me because of my measurements. I'm obviously petite but I've got a little bit more in the hip and butt area so sizing can be an issue. When I used to work at Banana Republic years ago I loved giving advice to other petite women about how BR's clothing fit, especially the jeans not only because I was an employee but because I truly loved them and lived in them. These are by far my favorite though, in my opinion they are the perfect length for someone with a little bit of booty ;) I wasn't faced with the issue of having a huge gap in the back nor did I have to hem them at all. Yes, sometimes I need to have even my petite pants hemmed because I'm that short but these jeans are perfect, no tailoring necessary :)

Weekend Wear: A Petite Maxi Dress

September 7, 2014

In the past I was apprehensive about wearing maxi dresses with my short stature (4'10ft. 1/2in., that half of an inch counts!) but stores like LOFT, The Gap and Banana Republic have had some great petite options :)

This grey maxi is from The Gap and it couldn't be more comfortable. I loved it so much that I bought it in black too! It's a high-low dress and you can easily dress it up or dress it down. In this look I added a heavily zippered cropped jacket, it was on super duper sale for only $25, (originally $90) so I couldn't resist. I added a navy stone necklace from J. Crew Factory for a touch of glam to my casual weekend look.

On my feet I wore my favorite sandals from Banana Republic. I have worn these babies out this summer, they have been my perfect summer sandal and easily go with any outfit. Being that I am so petite you will usually find me in some sort of heel but these hands down have been my go-to pair.

Let's Get to Work: Black, White & Red All Over

September 4, 2014

I purchased this black and white number from H&M about a month ago and absolutely fell in love with it. Anyone that knows me knows that I am obsessed with black and white. They really pair so well together and it's a classic look that never goes out of style.

I wore this dress to work and paired it with my chunky gold link necklace from Bauble Bar, nude heels from J. Crew Factory and my red Michael Kors wallet in hand. Luckily, I can get away with these trendier outfits at the office - it's business casual :)

The dress itself is 61% Cotton, 37% Polyester and 2% Elastane and its thickness makes it feel like you're wearing a sweater dress. This is easily a dress that can go from season to season. The flared bottom immediately caught my attention when I was in the store and houndstooth pattern is eye catching.

Black and white always go nicely together but I love adding an accent color to make any outfit pop.

How do you like to pair black and white?
